Let's try to add some tariffs to demonstrate the capabilities of a tariff system.

Example 1

Let's first see a simple example.
ISP has two rates: one for weekdays and one for weekends. Weekdays tariff is $0.5 per hour independent of daytime. Weekends tariff is $0.3 per hour independent of daytime.

  1. In a connection properties window click the "Connection rates" tab and then "Add new". Click "Next".
  2. Enter the "Weekdays" as the name of a tariff. Click "Next".
  3. Enter $0.5 to the first field and choose "hour" from the dropdown list. Click "Next" again.
  4. In most cases ISPs have a tariffication by minute, so just click "Next".
  5. Since our tariff is independent of daytime it's active period is: from 00:00:00 to 23:59:59. These values are already in place, so click "Next".
  6. Set a bullet opposite the "All week-days" and click "Next" again.
  7. This tariff doesn't depend on phones, so all that you should do here is to click "Next".
  8. Click "Next" four times more.
  9. Click "Finish". Ok, we've created first tariff. To create the second one follow the steps 10 and 11.
  10. Repeat steps 1-9 except step 6. Use the step 11 instead of step 6.
  11. Set a bullet opposite the "All week-ends" and click "Next" again.

Example 2

First example was quite easy. Let's create something more interesting. We'll omit "Click Next" to save space.
ISP has four rates: 3 for weekdays and one for weekends. Weekdays tariffs are: $0.02 per minute from 08:00:00 to 19:59:59, $0.01 per minute from 20:00:00 to 07:59:59 and the third weekdays tariff is: $10 per day. First and second tariffs are used when you dial phone 1 and the third one is used when you dial phone 2. Weekends tariff is still $0.3 per hour independent of daytime.

  1. Let's first specify the weekends tariff. It is simple and we have already created it in the Example 1. So, Follow the steps 10-11 of the Example 1.
  2. Ok, let's do the interesting part. Run Wizard again. Specify the name for the first weekdays tariff. "Phone 1, daytime" is good enough.
  3. Enter $0.02 to the first field and choose "minute" from the dropdown list. Click "Next".
  4. Tariffication still by minute, so just click "Next".
  5. Specify the active period of our first tariff. Enter 08:00:00 in the first field and 19:59:59 in the second.
  6. Set a bullet opposite the "All week-days".
  7. Click "This tariff should be applied to the checked phone numbers only" and check the first phone number in the list. Note: your connection should have 2 phone numbers already. If you don't know how to add phone numbers to your connection click here.
  8. Skip the rest pages and finish the Wizard.
  9. Now create the second weekdays tariff in the same way. You should use period from 20:00:00 to 07:59:59 and a cost of $0.01 instead.
  10. Now we'll create the last tariff of this ISP. Start the Wizard and go up to the cost entering page.
  11. Enter $10 in the text field and choose "Whole period" from the dropdown list. Click "Next" twice.
  12. Active period should be the following: from 00:00:00 to 23:59:59.
  13. On the next page choose "Week-days" and go to the phones page where you should check the second phone.
  14. Finish the Wizard.

Example 3

We will use the result of the second Example here. Let's change our second weekdays tariff ($0.01 per minute) so, that Dialer Queen warn us about it soon ending. What's the purpose of this changing? Well, the second tariff have a charge of $0.01 whereas the first one is twice more expensive, so it is better to disconnect before to avoid money overspending. As an exercise we will add one more tariff with the charge for traffic: the charge is $100 per month up to 500Mb of incoming traffic per month, if you exceed this limit, you pay additionally $0.15 per Mb.

  1. Select our second tariff in the rates list, it's name was "Phone 1, night time". Click the "Edit selected" button.
  2. We won't change any parameters, so click "Next" up to the page entitled "React upon tariff's active period ending". Choose "Yes".
  3. On the next page enter the values of 3 minutes and 0 seconds in the appropriate fields. Be warned 3 minutes prior to the tariff's ending is good enough. Click "Next".
  4. This page allows you to setup reactions type. We will use only two of them: disconnection and warning message. Set checkmarks near the corresponding options. Under the "Disconnect" option there are two more options specifying disconnection time. Choose the bottom one - Dialer Queen will disconnect only after those 3 minutes we have specified one step before expire. Click "Next".
  5. This page allows you to setup warning message style. We will leave all colors as they are and change only timings. Set the "Duration of the showing" parameter to 2. You can do it using arrows. Set the "Pause" parameter to 1 and the "Number of repeats" to 3. Click the "Test" button to see what we will get when our tariff's active period will be in 3 minutes from ending. Cool, isn't it? Click "Stop" and finish the Wizard.
  6. Let's do the second part of this Example. Start the Wizard using "Add new" and give a name to our new tariff like this: "Traffic". Go to the next page.
  7. Since our new tariff have a cost of $100 per month you should enter $100 in the first field and choose "Month" in the period's dropdown list. Click "Next".
  8. Tarriffication is of no use today. Click "Next", choose "All days" and click "Next" three times a row.
  9. "Does your ISP charge you for traffic?" - You should answer "No" on this question. This option is used when your ISP charges you for traffic using megabytes-based charging system, i.e. fixed charge for each downloaded or uploaded megabyte. In our case the charge is fixed for period of one month and we have already set it up. So, choose "No" and click "Next".
  10. "Does your ISP take extra charge for the excess of a traffic limit?" - this is what we need. Answer "Yes".
  11. Cause our imaginary ISP charges only for incoming traffic choose the option "Charge is taken separately...", then set a check near the "Charge for the incoming traffic" and enter $0.15 in the text field. This will be the charge for the excess of a traffic limit. Click "Next".
  12. Now the page for the limits. Choose again the separated limits and check limit for incoming traffic. Enter 500 to the first field and choose "Month" from the dropdown list. Click "Next".
  13. In most cases traffic amount is rounded up to kilobytes, so choose "Round up to KBytes" and finish the Wizard.
Important note: in this example we created a limit. This limit was automatically added to the limits list and will be used to count traffic excess charge for our tariff. Do not delete this limit from the list of limits! If you do, charge for the excess of traffic limit will not be calculated right!
