What is a limit? Limit is a limitation of one of the following parameters of a connection: time, money or traffic. What the limits are used for? They can be used to protect you from an undesirable excess of your ISP's limits for traffic or time, or to warn you when you have spent to much money today, or to warn you when your account is going low on money, or to help you handling your Internet cards, or to count such ISP rates as charge for the excess of monthly traffic quota and so on.
To create the connection limits you should go to the third tab in the connection properties window:

Click the "Add new" button to add a new limit or "Edit selected" to change parameters of the selected limit. No matter which of these buttons you click, Limits Wizard will be started. "Delete selected" button is used to remove selected limit from the list. The limit's list contains all existing limits and their parameters. By default, it displays all limits's parameters, but you can choose to display only those of them that you really need as it shown on the picture above. You can do it by clicking the . The list below contains all parameters and their values of the selected limit. Please note that all changes you make inside this window will be saved only when you click the "Save" button! On the picture above there are 2 limits, the first one is a money limit of $20 per month, the second one is a time limit of 5 hours per month. These limits are just examples, but they show the main idea. The first limit could be useful, for example, to control Internet card. Assume that you have an Internet card with total amount of money on it equal to $20 and this Internet card will expire in a month. In this case you may create a limit of $20 per month to be warned when these money come to the end. The same limit also can be used just to control yourself in order to avoid unwanted expenses, for example, if your monthly budget intends only $20 for Internet purposes. The second limit (the limit of time) can be used, for example, to evade excess of monthly time quota established by your ISP. Let's see how these limits were created.
Click the "Add new" button to start the Limit Wizard. Limit Wizard was specially designed to help you easily create or modify your connection limits.
Step 1 - Name your connection limit. It's a good idea to name your connection limits so that they represents their purpose, for example: "Monthly traffic limit" or "Every tenth minute warning" etc.
Step 2 - Each limit may be applied to all tariffs (i.e. tariff independent) or only to some of them. Limit's tariff depenedcy is used, for example, to calculate such ISP rates as: charge for the excess of traffic limit. This feature also can be used when you want to apply some limit only to the particular tariff.
Step 3 - Specify limit's reset rules. Each limit may be reset either on limit's ending or on active period of this limit ending. Limit's reset means that it's value (for example, money) is returned to it's initial condition. If you create say limit of 5 hours per month then this limit is better to be reset at the end of period, i.e. at the end of each month. Why? Because, if ISP has limit of 5 hours per month then your limit's value (5 hours in this case) should be started anew each month, not each 5 hours. The reset at limit's ending may be used in a such cases as: using an Internet cards with no expiration period or if you want to get warning every megabyte you download. The check "Reset at the disconnect" may be used for limits requiring reset at every disconnect, for example, mentioned already warning message for every megabyte you've downloaded. By the way, you should know that any limit can be reset at any time using the "Reset selected limit" button on the "Connection limits" tab of the connection properties window (see the picture above).
Step 4 - Choose the type of a limit. Each limit can be the limit of money, limit of time or limit of traffic (no matter incoming or outgoing).
Step 5 - This page appears if you choose to create the limit of money. You should enter the value of the limit to the field. For example, $100 per month or $20 per week. Please note that if you chose to reset limit by limit's ending, the period's dropdown list will be disabled.
Step 6 - This page appears if you choose to create the limit of time. Enter here the maximum amount of time you are ready to spend per some period of time. Please note that if you chose to reset limit by limit's ending, the period's dropdown list will be disabled.
Step 7 - You'll see this page if you chose to create the limit of traffic. This particular page allows you to set up limitation of incoming traffic. If you want to specify some value here, click the "There is an incoming traffic limitation" and enter desired value to the field.
Step 8 - The same as Step 7, but for outgoing traffic. Note, that if you already specified some period for incoming traffic, the same period will be used for outgoing traffic too.
Step 9 - The same as Step 7 or Step 8, but for total amount of traffic. Note, that if you already specified some period for incoming or outgoing traffic, the same period will be used here too.
Step 10 - If you want Dialer Queen to perform any actions upon limit's ending, answer "Yes" here.
Step 11 - Here you should specify minimal values of the remainder for each parameter. In fact, you should specify only the remainder for the parameter you chose to create the limit for. For example, if you creating a limit of money, then you should only fill the money's remaider field. What does this remainder mean? It means that when your limit's remainder value become less than or equal to the value you specify here, then some action will be performed. For example, you may choose to disconnect if the remainder of your money limit of $20 become less than (or equal to) $1.
Step 12 - Choose here the actions you want Dialer Queen to perform. You have choice of disconnect, play sound and show the warning message. You can also combine these actions together. Note that disconnect action can be performed either right after the remainder become less than the specified value or only after the limit really ends. According to the above example, you may choose to show the warning when you will have only $1 at your account, but disconnect only when you'll have nothing at all.
Step 13 - This page appears if you chose to display the warning message. Here you can adjust the view of this warning message, it's colors, size and duration of the showing. You can click the "Test" button to preview the result.
Step 14 - Click the "Finish" button to add this limit to the limits list.
Please note, that it is not necessary to fill up all pages in this Wizard. You should choose only those ones that fit best your needs. Don't forget to take a look at to familiarize yourself with a vast capabilites of a limits system.
